John Henry De Rinzy (1852 - 1936) was active in the, Ottawa, Gatineau, St. Lawrence River regions. I remain interested in acquiring additions to my collection. See contact information below.
He was born in Brockville Ontario, raised in Merrickville Ontario and worked for the Public Works and Post Office Departments of the Canadian Government in Ottawa. He gifted many works to family and friends but sold some pieces through my Father’s Art Shop on the old Sparks Street (Confederation Square) in Ottawa.
While mainly working in watercolours Mr. De Rinzy did apparently dabble in oil. I have found only one signed piece in 60 years of collecting his works. Large and beautiful. Yes it follows the pastoral style of much of his work. Then recently I stumbled upon three, unsigned, small oils that I cannot verify but given the technique, colour, style and subject matter certainly could be his. You can judge by comparing these images (please click)
And his watercolours often followed a stream, woods, lane but then there are the ships, early peoples, hunters....etc. But what remains is the vibrancy of his colours that survive in virtually all the works in my collection and in the Public Archives, private homes and Galleries across Canada. Here is a sampling for your pleasure.
